I teach fiction with an emphasis on attention, embodiment, precious grief, and the small, existential choices that shape us.

My classes draw from my work in short fiction, my background in somatic, contemplative, and place-based writing, dream analysis/logic, and my deep passion for line-level revision.

I’ve served as a lecturer, guide, and instructor on narrative craft, Black Feminism, Trauma & Fiction, Affrilachian Cartography, poetry-in-fiction, and Listening at Columbia University, Appalachian State, University of Tennessee, SCAD, Warren Wilson College, Wake Forest, NC State, and colleges and organizations across the South, the country, and the world.

I help writers locate the emotional and physical origins of their work and develop a practice that is both rigorous and intuitive, moving toward a stronger creative sense of inner-authority.

If you are interested in a private workshop or a class tailored to your group or organization, I welcome inquiries.
